Section 1 Start Here

In this module we will explore the mathematical tools necessary to investigate torque. On our journey we will puzzle with vectors and their geometry. We will consider the dot product and use it to find the angle between vectors. We will define and study the cross product, and consider how best to visualize it. Finally we will bring all that we have learned together to define and explore torque.

Throughout the module you will find examples with solutions as well as exercises. Right below you will see a checkpoint, click this to show the exercise.

These are inline with the reading, and the intention is that they are worked as you go. In most cases, there are a few problems in a row. The intention is that you use the first one (along with the answer and the solution) to get a feel for the problem, and as you work through the other, simular, questions, you can work towards completing them independently.

In addition to the examples and the exercises, you will find proofs to some of the theorems. These are initially hidden behind the word

the idea here is that you check this out when you feel like looking under the mathematical hood.

Each of the five sections is broken down into subsections (and in some cases even some subsubsections). A good place to pause would be at the top of a new section. This gives you the chance to let all the new concepts settle before moving on.

The goal here is a first introduction to the concept of vectors with just-in-time questions and automated feedback that allows us to build to torque on a solid foundation.
